Nostalgia: Thala Ajith and Aishwarya Rai’s sizzling chemistry is not to be missed

Thala Ajith has a humongous fan following down south. The superstar is not only known for his dashing looks but also acting chops. He has worked with a number of popular heroines. But not many know that Bollywood’s ex-Miss World Aishwarya Rai too has shared screen space with Thala Ajith. Their chemistry in a throwback video has left us mesmerized.

Ajith Kumar and Aishwarya Rai had come together for Kandukondein Kandukonde that released nineteen years ago.

May 5, 2020. Twenty years of Kandukondain so only fair that an earlier write up deserves a replug. It's a pity Rajeev Menon takes long break between movies and has chosen to topline films as a cinematographer for filmmakers like Mani Ratnam. His adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense and sensibility won so many hearts when released. #KandukondainKandukondain for starters had one of AR Rahman's most accomplished scores. From gossamer tunes like the title track to the racy #smaiyayaya. My favourite is undoubtedly #kannamoochi and #ennasollapogiran. Sigh! Those were the days. A mother who falsely believes her elder daughter is unlucky thanks to some astrological discrepancies, sets in motion a chain of bitter-sweet moments. Tabu at the peak of her prowess steals the show effortlessly. Some marvellous performances from Mammotty, aishwarya Rai, Srividya and Ajith make this ensemble piece noteworthy. The dance pieces, the locations, the poetry every mood is brilliant, every construct neatly designed. Amazingly well shot by both Ravi Chandran and Rajeev Menon, -#Kandukondain is about the triumph of desire. It is about heartbreak and eventual healing. It's about rising above man made obstacles and reaching for the skies. An intricately woven plot written with amazing grace in dialogue and goodness, the film despite its many detours is heartwarming. Good things happen to good people. #Kandukondain reminds you of that yet again. Menon's greatest gift is is his ability to zoom into human frailties and give us characters that have universal resonances. That can come only from someone with deep abiding humanism.

‘Kandukondain Kandukondain’ won critical appreciation and became a hit film at the box office. The Tamil romantic drama film was based on Jane Austen’s novel Sense and Sensibility. Directed and co-written by Rajiv Menon, the film featured an ensemble cast of Mammootty, Ajith, Tabu, Aishwarya Rai, and Abbas. Veteran actors Srividya, Raghuvaran, and Manivannan also played pivotal roles in the movie. The soundtrack was scored by A. R. Rahman.

Thala Ajith turned a year older on May 1, 2020 but asked his fans not to celebrate it due to the COVI-19 Pandemic. He donated Rs 1.25 crore for coronavirus relief efforts.

Ajith was last seen in director H Vinoth’s Nerkonda Paarvai, which is a Tamil remake of Hindi blockbuster Pink. He is currently working on his upcoming film, Valimai.
