6 SRPF Jawans test positive for COVID-19 in Malegaon

The number of Coronavirus cases in Nashik’s Malegaon does not seem to stop as 11 fresh cases reported on April 21, taking a total number of positive cases to 96. According to the latest report, six State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) Jawans, who were deployed in Malegaon, have been tested positive for COVID-19.

For the unversed, in order to prevent the rapid spread of novel Coronavirus cases in densely populated Malegaon city, 107 SRPF belonging to Jalna, Dhulia and Hangoli were called. After completing their duty in the city, when they reached in Hangoli and their samples were sent for testing, reports of 6 SRPF Jawans came out as positive on Tuesday.

The name and details of Coronavirus positive Jawans have not been revealed as of now. It is to be noted that the number of Coronavirus cases in Nashik district has risen to 110, Malegaon, which is fast turning into a worrisome hotspot in Maharashtra, alone accounts for 96 of them.

The number of COVID-19 patients in Nashik districts might have touched 110, around 80 per cent of the district is still Coronavirus free, district collector Suraj Mandhare said on Sunday.

“While the number of positive cases are very high, most of these cases are in Malegaon town, which is very congested and has a population of around 7 lakh. There are few cases in other talukas, but even today 11 out of 15 talukas are free from Covid-19,” Suraj Mandhare told Times of India.

“The lockdown and institutional quarantine facilities in Malegaon have done the trick and the district was able to control the rampant growth of people affected by Covid-19, especially the carriers,” he added.

When asked about the economic activities in the Nashik district, Mandhara has appealed to the people to stick to the rules of lockdown and maintain social distancing.

“Industries, only with prior permission and adhering to sanitization norm, will be allowed to function. They will also have to take care of the transportation of the employees and the vehicle used for transportation will have to be sanitised after every trip,” Mandhare added.
