Lil Bub death: Internet’s famous cat dies aged eight

Internet’s famous cat Lil Bub, the darling of social media, has passed away on Sunday. Bub was 8 years old and famous for her unusual look, she was a cat with a rare dwarfism and bone conditions that stunted her growth and made her look like a kitten. The genetic abnormalities made her the subject of study by scientists, as well as a hit on the internet.

Lil Bub’s owner Mike Bridavsky posted the news on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. He wrote, “Bub was cheerful and full of love laying in our bed with us Saturday night, but unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her sleep. Even knowing this, we weren’t expecting her to pass so soon or so abruptly without warning. I truly believe that she willingly made the decision to leave her failing body so that our family would not have to make that difficult decision ourselves.”

Bub was the runt of a feral litter found in Indiana. She was taken in by Mr. Bridavsky. She became famous after photographs were shared on Tumblr and Reddit in 2011 and went on to accrue a vast social media following, with millions of followers on Instagram and Facebook.

Several Twitter users also showered their love on the little cat.

Lil Bub is the second internet-famous cat to die this year. In May, Grumpy Cat died at the age of seven.
