Harry Styles Leaves out Zayn Malik In His One Direction Shout Out on ‘SNL’
Harry Styles appeared on Saturday Night Live on November 16
Harry Styles made an appearance on Saturday Night Live and predictably made a few One Direction references. One such reference confirmed what the fans have long known. Harry Styles and Zayn Malik don’t exactly get along well.
As Harry took to the stage, he made a few self-deprecating jokes to start the night off. “I’m a very serious musician, and nothing says serious musician like talking while playing the piano,” he said as he went over to the piano. There were also some UK/US jokes in there. “You know, in Britain we play piano on the other side of the road”
Eventually, the singer mentioned the boy band that had made him a household name. “I don’t know if you’ve heard or not,” he said. “I’m not in a boy band anymore. I’m in a man band. I was in a band called One Direction. How crazy would it be if they were here tonight?!” He questioned, baiting fans with the possibility “I love those guys. They’re my brothers. Niall, Liam, Louie… Ringo.” His deliberate omission of Zayn Malik from the shout out would come as no surprise to fans of the band. It is no secret that the two musicians don’t get along well.
Zayn Malik on Harry Styles
In 2017, during an interview, Zayn had stated that they weren’t really close. “To be honest, I never really spoke to Harry even when I was in the band… So I didn’t really expect that much of a relationship with him when I left. And I haven’t [had one], to be honest.” Zayn Malik left One Direction to pursue a solo career and many consider it the reason behind the band going on hiatus in 2016.
Harry Styles also thanked his X Factor mentor Simon Cowell with a humorous comment, “I’m just so grateful Simon Cowell grew us in those test tubes.”
