Air pollution in Delhi worsens to ‘severe’ category; to dip further

Delhi is once again facing the issue of air pollution that is causing many health problems to the residents. The capital city and its suburbs have again been engulfed in a thick blanket of smog as a fall in the temperature and wind speed pushed the city’s air quality in the “severe” zone.

Scientists and weather experts said that low wind speed will continue to impact the national capital’s air quality.
The air quality monitor has predicted that the pollution levels in Delhi-NCR are expected to enter the ‘severe-plus’ or ’emergency’ category.

According to SAFAR, the share of stubble-burning accounted for 25 percent of Delhi’s pollution on Tuesday, up from 18 percent on Monday. The government has cautioned against all outdoor activities.

As reported by health authorities, ‘Severe’ air quality can cause respiratory problems to healthy people and serious health impacts on people with lung or heart diseases. People are advised to avoid all outdoor physical activities, skip morning walks and close room windows.

Faridabad (413), Gurgaon (511), Ghaziabad (461), and Noida (572) also choked on extremely polluted air. The Supreme Court-mandated anti-pollution authority EPCA has said dirty fuel-based industries in Delhi and its suburbs will remain shut till the morning of November 13.

The Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority has also extended the ban on hot-mix plants and stone-crushers in Delhi-NCR till Wednesday morning.
