New alphabet song changes ‘LMNOP’ part and inflames the internet

“Dream English” has got a new take on the alphabet song and not everyone’s happy about it. It’s safe to say that many would prefer to stick with the classics. The new version of the song eliminates the rushed “L,M,N,O,P” and enunciates each word separately to get rid of the elemenopee sound.

The new song was created by DreamEnglish.com. According to its website, their aim is to “make educational music that is not only filled with important phrases and grammar, but is also enjoyable to listen to.”
Interestingly, the tune was first posted to YouTube all the way back in 2012. It went viral after screenwriter and producer Noah Garfinkel shared it on Twitter. By changing the rhythm of the song and clarifying the letters, the song helps non-native English speakers learn the alphabet.

The post received more than 7.9 million views and sparked negative reactions on Twitter. People had strong opinions about the song and they weren’t afraid to share them.
“This is disgusting and appalling and something must be done about it,” actor and YouTuber Nicola Foti wrote.

However, not all reactions to the change were negative. One Twitter user said the change in melody might help children better learn the alphabet. “As an early childhood teacher this is not the first or the last abc song to do this. Because the lmnop part is extremely confusing for children who are learning letters by seeing the letter and hearing its name.”
