Joker: Joaquin Phoenix’s Makeup took only 15 mins as the actor couldn’t sit still
Joker's makeup artist revealed that the overall makeup took only 15 minutes.
Joaquin Phoenix has received a lot of appreciation in his latest film ‘Joker’ for his fantastic performance and was praised by critics from all over. But do you know that his transformation into the iconic character took only 15 minutes? Yes, Phoenix’s restlessness earns him the title of fastest Joker transformation with Heath Ledger’s time on the makeup chair at an hour maximum, and Jared Leto’s at three hours.

In an interview with Dazed Beauty, ‘Joker’ makeup artist Nicki Ledermann revealed, “It took an average of 15-20 minutes to apply the makeup. Partly because it was hard for Joaquin to sit still but also because I didn’t want it to look too precisely thought out.”
Ledermann further added , “I used and mixed different products to match the texture and colors exactly, freehand the placement and not interrupt the speedy pace and incredible intensity of filming, so it would look fluent and authentic. The hardest part of all was nailing continuity — when you film a movie, you don’t shoot in scene order. One day you film a scene that is being continued days or weeks later and you have to match it exactly frame to frame. Because everything was freehand, it took a lot of record-keeping and solid painting skills to match and progress it.”
Ledermann has also doled out some help for fans who want to channel the Joker for Halloween this year. They can recreate the look by using some MAC Chromacakes in Cyan, Pure White, Basic Red, Landscape Green, and Black Black.
