George Clooney advised Ben Affleck not to play Batman

George Clooney who played the Dark Knight in 1997 movie Batman & Robin revealed that he advised Ben Affleck not to act in Batman. On the Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, he shared the experience of how the movie changed the entire approach to his career and taught him an important lesson.

He said, “Schwarzenegger (Arnold, who was also part of Batman & Robin) was paid, I think, 25 million dollars for that, which was like 20 times more than I was paid for it, and, you know, we never even worked together! We worked together one day. But I took all the heat.”

“I was playing Batman and I wasn’t good in it, and it wasn’t a good film, but what I learned from that failure was, I had to rethink how I was working. Because now I wasn’t just an actor getting a role, I was being held responsible for the film itself,” added Clooney.

When Clooney was working with Ben Affleck on Argo (Clooney was the producer), the former gave a piece of important advice to Ben who was about to play the Dark Knight in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Recalling his advice to Ben, Clooney said, “I actually did talk to him about it. I said, ‘Don’t do it’. It was only from my experience, which is, you know …”

But Affleck didn’t take his advice and decided to appear in the movie. It was criticized by the film critics and got poor reviews.
