IPL 2019: Rohit Sharma fined for breach of code of conduct
Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been fined for breach of code of conduct during a match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Eden Gardens on Sunday. He has been fined 15 percent of match fee. After he was declared out leg before wicket (LBW), he was frustrated and out of anger, he broke the stumps with his bat. Rohit gave three boundaries before his wicket was taken by Harry Gurney in the fourth over of the match.
Rohit admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s code of conduct. There was a hearing with the match referee and accepted the sanction. The IPL press release stated, “Mr. Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.”
This is not the first time Rohit has been fined. Earlier too, in this season of IPL, he was found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct and was fined Rs 12 lakh for the slow over-rate of his team against Kings XI Punjab.
Mumbai Indians was chasing 233 runs against KKR but they lost it by 34 runs. Despite Hardik Pandya’s terrific performance of 91 off 34 balls, the team lost the match. Mumbai Indians currently have 14 points from 12 games and is in the third in the IPL points table.
