Pollachi Sex Scandal: Tamil Nadu Govt Decides to Transfer Case to CBI, 4 Booked Under Goondas Act

The group of four men, who are accused of sexually harassing and blackmailing 19-year old women in Pollachi sex scandal have been booked under the Goondas Act. It is to be noted that the Tamil Nadu government has decided to hand over the Pollachi sex abuse scandal and blackmailing case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Pollachi rape case has led to widespread outrage in Tamil Nadu as the leaked video of one of the victims crying a pleading with her tormentors has gone viral.

The Police in Pollachi has booked Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi and others belonging to opposition party DMK for taking  to street to protest without getting any permission. Kanimozhi was later released.

Coimbatore Collector K Rajamani has passed an order on Tuesday (March 12) detaining Thirunavukkarasu, T. Vasanthkumar, N. Sathish and N. Sabarirajan based on a recommendation from the Coimbatore Rural Superintendent of Police R. Pandiarajan.

Acting on girl’s complaint, the Police had arrested Sabarirajan alias Rishwanth, Sathish, Vasanthkumar on February 25 and Thirunavukkarasu on March 5 for allegedly physically sexually assaulting one of the Pollachi case victims and shooing the act. The Police have also booked them with sexual harassment, assault by use of criminal force and invoked provisions of the Information Technology Act and Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.

Judicial Magistrate dismissed Pollachi rape case accused’s bail plea

The Judicial Magistrate I court in Pollachi, Tamil Nadu has dismissed an application which sought bail of the accused Thirunavukkarasu. On Monday, his mother had also filed an application citing his deteriorating health condition among the others while applying for his bail. While dismissing his bail plea, the Magistrate said that he went hiding following the crime and could flee the country if bail is granted.

According to the report, Coimbatore Rural SP Mr. Pandiarajan is busy finding out if young women who had committed suicide in Pollachi over the period of last one year or so were also victims of the crime. Talking to reporters, Coimbatore Collector K. Rajamani said that the administration would initiate action against those who spread rumours about the sex scandal on social media sites, causing consternation to the family of the girl who had lodged the complaint.

The Collector stressed that the administration would take action if it came across messages that brought disrepute to the woman or her family. The administration would send a report to the State Commission for Women.

How Accused Harassed woman and Lured women in Pollachi?

According to the Indian Express report, the accused lured women belonging to Tamil Nadu with fake Facebook accounts. In most of the cases, they engage in conversation with the victims asking questions on lesbianism and other topic related to sexual desire. Once they befriended on Facebook, the accused forced victims to meet in person citing their vulgar chats. They harassed women in moving vehicles, hotels and ever farmhouse near Anamalai forest. The victims in Pollachi sex scandal are school and college teachers, doctors and students, who initially did not file a complaint fearing a backlash from their family and society.
