Farooq Abdullah meets Piyush Goyal; seeks resumption of DMUs on Jammu Tawi-Udhampur track
Jammu and Kashmir former Chief Minister and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday called on Railway Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi.
During a high-level meeting with Piyush Goyal, Farooq Abdullah sought resumption of the Jammu Tawi-Udhampur diesel multiple units (DMUs) on an immediate basis.
According to a spokesperson of the National Conference, Farooq expressed serious concern over the discontinuation of the two DMUs on the Jammu-Udhampur section, saying this had put the commuters in a lot of hardships.
The spokesperson further said that keeping in view the huge dependence of the commuters on this service, the former Chief Minister also sought the attention of the Northern Railways. “Farooq hoped that the matter would be sorted out on a priority basis for the larger interest of the travellers,” the spokesperson added.
The spokesperson also said, “The Railways Minister assured that he would look into the issue, have it examined and sorted out on a priority basis.” The NC spokesperson said the issue had been raised with Farooq by the party’s provincial president, Devender Singh Rana, on Tuesday.
“Rana has also been in touch with the Northern Railways in this regard. Responding to the plea of Rana, the NC president took up the issue with the Railways Minister,” the spokesperson concluded.
