Chhattisgarh: Bhupesh Baghel takes oath as Chief Minister of state
Senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Monday took oath as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh at Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium in Raipur.
Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oath of office and secrecy to Bhupesh Baghel in the presence of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath and others.
On Sunday, Congress leadership announced Bhupesh Baghel as the Chief Minister designate of the state. The senior politician has managed to pip other three chief ministerial candidates, TS Singh Deo, Tamradhwaj Sahu and Charan Das Mahant.
The result of the Chhattisgarh Assembly election was declared on December 11. The Congress party clinched 68 seats and snatched the state from BJP, which ruled for 15 years. While BJP was able to win only 15 seats out of 90, Janata Congress and BSP collectively won only 7 seats.
Baghel is a senior Congress leader and current President of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee. Bhupesh Baghel started his political career under the guidance of his late teacher Late Chandulal Chandrakar in 80’s. Bhupesh joined Indian Youth Congress (IYC) in the year 1985 and was President, IYC Durg District from 1990 to 1994. He was Vice President of Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress (1994–95).
