Ranji Trophy: Shreyas Iyer slams hundred on return as Mumbai dominate Baroda
Young batsman Shreyas Iyer helped Mumbai dominate proceedings on the first day’s play in the Ranji Trophy match against Baroda on Friday.
The right-hander played a classy innings of 178 runs featuring 11 sixes and 17 fours and added 200 runs with captain Siddhesh Lad (130) as the 41-time national champions ended the day with 439/8 on the board.
This was after a returning Hardik Pandya scalped two quick wickets to push Mumbai on the backfoot.
Iyer, who joined the Mumbai side a day ago after returning from India A’s tour of New Zealand A didn’t show signs of any jetlag as he took on the Baroda attack fearlessly. Playing his first match of the season, he showed character and resilience as he slammed his 12th first-class hundred.

It was he and Lad who bailed out the side, which was once tottering at 28/2.
Meanwhile, Priyank Panchal’s 94 went in vain as Gujarat could only muster 216 in their first innings against Karnataka. Prateek Jain, Krishnappa Gowtham, Shreyas Gopal, Vinay Kumar and Ronit More scalped two each.
