Records Bangladesh achieved in their Test series sweep

Bangladesh well and truly had a memorable Sunday as they made sure that they had clinched their first Test series in four years when they won the second Test against the West Indies in Dhaka by an innings and 184 runs. They had earlier won the first Test in Chittagong by 64 runs.

This was the first time Bangladesh secured a Test match by an innings, in its Test history which is 112 matches old. The main architect of this historic and record-breaking victory was Mehidy Hasan, who walked out with 12 wickets from the match. He had taken 7/58 in the first innings and followed that effort up with 5/59 in the second. West Indies, in pursuit of a mammoth Bangladeshi total of 508, first fell for just 111 runs and just bettered their effort with 213 in the second innings.

Yet, this was also the very first time that all 40 wickets in a match has fallen to spinners in the 2-match series. In the first Test match, it was Nayeem Hasan and Taijul Islam who had shouldered the responsibility and ended with five-wicket hauls each to fetch the hosts a 64-run win in Chittagong.
The spinners also equalled a feat that came 128 years ago when Kraigg Brathwaite, Kieran Powell, Sunil Ambris, Roston Chase and Shai Hope all were bowled by spinners–the first time since 1890 when the top five batters have been dismissed in this manner in one Test innings.
