Virat Kohli’s love for Test cricket is significant: David Gower
India skipper Virat Kohli is a great fan of Test cricket though he enjoys wielding his willow across all formats. The modern-day great believes that five-day cricket is ‘the most beautiful format of the game’. “I think that if you really understand the sport, if you really love the sport, you understand Test cricket and you understand how exciting it is,” Virat Kohli had told icc-cricket.com earlier this year.
Virat Kohli’s passion for Test cricket earned him a praise from none other than former England captain David Gower. “We had a fantastic series against India, closer than the margin suggests,” Gower was quoted as saying by international news agency AFP.
“It is a reflection of the balance of power if Virat says that — you’ve got a lot of people who will listen,” the stylish English batsman said.
Kohli is currently leading the Indian pack for the ensuing four-Test series that will commence with the five-dayer in Adelaide on December 6. It is perhaps India’s best chance to win a Test series in Australia for the first time in 11 attempts since independence, particularly due to the absence of their two batting mainstays — Steve Smith and David Warner. Both have been handed year-long bans following a ball-tampering scandal earlier this year.
However, India’s tour Down Under started with a three-match T20I series that ended 1-1 after Australia winning the opener in Brisbane and India levelling the series in Sydney in the third T20I. The second one in Melbourne was washed out though.
