AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships: Mary Kom makes her way into the semi-finals
MC Mary Kom made her way into the semi-finals after getting the better of China’s Wu Yu at the Women’s World Boxing Championships on Wednesday.
This victory thus guarantees Mary of a medal in the competition as she would next go up against Kim Hyang Mi of North Korea. Hyang had defeated Bak Chorong of Korea in the quarter-finals.

The veteran Indian boxer thus stands just two victories away from winning her sixth title, surpassing Katie Taylor of Ireland with whom she shares the record of five world titles.
Mary, who thus has made it to the semis had already defeated Kazakhstan’s Aigerim Kessenayeva 5-0 in the preliminary rounds. The 35-year old would be vying for her first AIBA title win since 2010. The mother of three, she had won a silver in the inaugural edition and clinched five gold medals in the World Championships from 2002-2010.
