Bollywood actress Nafisa Ali diagnosed with stage 3 cancer
A National Swimming champion and Bollywood actress Nafisa Ali has been diagnosed with cancer. On Saturday evening, she revealed that she has been diagnosed with stage 3 cancer.
Taking to photo sharing platform Instagram, she shared a picture of her with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and wrote: “Just met my precious friend who wished me luck & to get well from my just diagnosed stage 3 cancer.”
It is to be noted that Nafisa Ali made her acting debut as a young actor in Junoon, which was released in 1979. Nafisa worked in several Bollywood movies such as Bewafaa (2005) Life in A…. Metro (2007) and Yamla Pagla Deewana (2010) and many others.
Apart from Bollywood, Ali also worked in Malayalam film called Big B (2007) with Mammootty and is associated with Action India, an organisation working to spread AIDS awareness.
Nafisa Ali contested the 2004 Lok Sabha elections unsuccessfully from South Kolkata. On 5 April 2009, she had contested the Lok Sabha election from Lucknow on the Samajwadi Party ticket after Sanjay Dutt’s disqualification by the Supreme Court on the basis of a prior conviction. She then rejoined the Indian National Congress party in November 2009 and said she is returning to Congress for life.
Nafisa is married to Arjuna award-winning golfer, Colonel Sodhi and has three children. In 1976 she represented India at the Miss International contest & was declared the 2nd runner-up.
Besides Nafia Alia, this year has seen two other Bollywood actors getting diagnosed with cancer. While Sonali Bendre has been undergoing treatment in New York, Irrfan Khan is being treated in London.
