Gujarat: Vijay Rupani flags off Ekta Yatra to celebrate completion of ‘Statue of Unity’
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Thursday flagged off the second round of Ekta Yatra, which is being organised across the state to celebrate the completion of ‘Statue of Unity’. The Ekta Yatra was flagged off from Aslali of Ahmedabad district.
It is to be noted that the Statue of Unity (SoU) was built in a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for his efforts to unite India.
On the occasion, CM Vijay Rupani administered a mass pledge of staying united. While addressing the gathering, CM Rupani reminded people of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s efforts in bringing 562 princely states to the fold of India and added that people should resolve that nothing should be done at the cost of the unity of the country.
He further said that the Statue of Unity has been built so that the young generation takes inspiration from the values of Sardar Patel. “The government is committed to defeat any attempt to marginalise sacrifice of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Dr B R Ambedkar, Shyamji Krishna Varma, Vir Savarkar etc,” the Chief Minister concluded.
The first round of Ekta Yatra was organised between October 20 and 29 during which 59 Ekta Raths had passed through 171 talukas of 33 districts. In the second round, the Ekta Yatra will be held between November 15 and 20.
