Tamil Nadu: AIADMK replaces J Jayalalithaa’s statue that hardly looked like her

Earlier 2018, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) headquarter in Chennai had organized a grand event to celebrate the 70th birth anniversary of former chief minister of Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalithaa. The party had unveiled a life-size statue of Jayalalitha, who was popularly known as Amma died in December 2016.

The bronze statue of Jayalalitha, with a rose garland and her index and middle fingers held up to evoke the two leaves of her party’s symbol, was erected next to the sculpture of AIADMK leader MG Ramachandran.

However, the joy of AIADMK party workers was short-lived as the statue hardly looked like Jayalalithaa. A closer look revealed an unrecognisable face, reported NDTV.

The embarrassed party workers had decided to replace it and they did. The new statue of Jayalalitha was unveiled by incumbent Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam this morning.

According to NDTV report, the party workers seemed happy again. They touched the statue’s feet, distributed sweets and raised slogans hailing Jayalalithaa.
