Mumbra: 10-year-old boy saves his younger brother from kidnapper
A 10-year old boy saved his two and half-year-old brother from being taken away by the unidentified woman in Thane’s Mumbra area on Friday. After having seen a burqa-clad woman picking his brother up and walked away, the boy chased for eight minutes and rescued him.
Two brothers and a cousin were playing outside their home in Mumbra, Thane. On Friday afternoon, when a burqa-clad woman approached the younger boy, picked him up and walked away.
Khurshid Warsi — the brothers’ uncle told Mumbai Mirror, “The area was crowded due to preparations for a marriage function in the locality. At around 1:30 pm, the three children were playing outside their house. The woman first attempted to engage my younger nephew in some play. Then she picked him up and began to walk away. My 10-year-old nephew questioned the woman, to which she replied that she was going to buy chocolates for him. He got suspicious and rushed to his 12-year-old cousin and told him to inform the family that his brother was being taken away by an unknown woman.”
Suspecting woman’s behaviour, the 10-year-old boy followed the kidnapper, who the boy noticed start taking fast steps. As she was at a distance, the boy followed her for over seven minutes and then started chasing her, which was captured by a private CCTV camera.
“I kept walking behind her and kept asking where she was taking my brother. When I tried to catch her, she ran faster,” the class 2 student told Mumbai Mirror.
Adding on Warsi said that the boy raised an alarm when she didn’t stop despite his repeated questions. “This alerted passers-by and by then my relatives and neighbours rushed to the spot to rescue the child. When she noticed a crowd, she left the boy and fled,” he told Mirror.
“We received information from the residents about an attempt to kidnap a child. We are investigating the case, but the family has not filed an official complaint regarding the incident,” Senior Police Inspector, Mumbra police station, Kishore Pasalkar quoted by Mumbai Mirror as saying.
