Mumbai: Congress meets activists for 2019 poll manifesto, seeks suggestions

With 2019 Lok Sabha elections in mind, the leaders of Mumbai unit of Congress met social activists and sought their views on various issues being faced by the people in the city. The party is planning to incorporate the suggestion in their election manifesto ahead of the 2019 polls.

Senior party leader and former Union minister Kumari Selja met with the activists under the national outreach programme — ‘Jan Awaaz (people’s voice)’ — in the financial capital on Tuesday. Selja also heads the All-India Congress Committee or AICC manifesto sub-committee.

Sharing the minutes of the briefing, Selja said, as quoted by the Indian Express, “Our party president Rahul Gandhi has instructed us to reach out to the people and prepare a manifesto which will aim at solving most of their issues.” She further added, “The Congress has given the country many credible institutions. But unfortunately, they are being destroyed one after the other.”

Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam stated that the party leaders discussed issues and challenges pertaining to urbanisation in the megacity. Adding more, he said that issues related with sanitation, housing, water supply, solid waste management and environment were discussed.

Among the activists participated in the interaction include — lawyer Afroz Shah, transport activist Ashok Datar, NGO Praja Foundation founder Nitai Mehta, journalist-turned-activist Sucheta Dalal, RTI activist Anil Galgali and others.
