Odisha police rescues Kolkata woman, gangraped in Puri
The Odisha police on Thursday detained two people in connection with the gangrape of a 25-year-old woman from West Bengal. The police said that the woman was allegedly sexually assaulted for 10 days in confinement at a market complex in Puri district.
Soon after the arrest, the police started the interrogation and have arrested two suspects in the case. Informing about the case, superintendent of police Gagarin Mohanty said that a year ago the victim was brought to Puri by another woman named Kajal on the pretext of securing a job for her a year ago. However, she was forced into prostitution by Kajal and a man.
Along with the victim, several others were held captive and were raped for days. The police came to known about the incident after the victim raised an alarm from the roof top of the building where she was detained. The police later broke open the lock and rescued her. Later she was taken to Puri district headquarters hospital for treatment.
Demanding the arrest of all the accused associated with the case, women activists from opposition BJP and the Congress have net the woman at the hospital. The activists have also sought impartial probe in the matter.
