Birthday Special: Hema Malini turns year older, see rare photos of ‘Dream Girl’

Bollywood legendary actress Hema Malini is celebrating her 70th Birthday today. The actress is known as Bollywood’s Dream Girl. Malini made her acting debut in the Tamil film named, Ithu Sathiyam. From portraying her most loved character Basanti in the movie Sholay, to till now, she has managed to wow us with her commendable acting on silver screen.

Spanning her decades-long career, she mostly starred opposite her husband Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna and Devanand. She has appeared in over 150 films.  She has received eleven nominations for Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

In the year 2000, Hema Malini won the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. Beside these Filmfare awards, Hema Malini was conferred the fourth-highest civilian award Padma Shree by the government of India.

Hema Malini’s first movie with Dharmendra was Tum Haseen Main Jawaan, was released in 1970. Following this movie, in 1980, she enacted in the cult movie Dreamgirl. After the success of the movie, Hema Malini was affectionately addressed as the ‘Dream Girl’, by the nation.

Malini and Dharmendra have two children, Esha Deol (born 1981) and Ahana Deol (born 1985).

Apart from her Bollywood career, Hema Malini, has a successful political career too. As a representative of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Hema Malini was elected to the Rajya Sabha Member from 2003 to 2009. The dream girl was also elected to the lower house of the parliament, Lok Sabha.

In addition, Malini is also a life member of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).

She was one of the most successful actress of her time. Malini was last seen in the 2017 film Ek Thi Rani Aisi Bhi.
