Rahul Gandhi on Global Hunger Index: PM Modi enjoyed life, forgot to give food to people
Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday yet again attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but this time it was not on Rafale deal. Gandhi took a dig at the Premier by saying that as he was too busy giving speeches worldwide and doing yoga, he forgot to provide food to the people. Gandhi’s statements came after the recently released Global Hunger Index report placing India at 103 among 119 nations.
Making sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party stalwart, the Congress president cited the reports of International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and Welthungerhilfe which clubbed India’s position with Nigeria in the survey. Taking on social networking site, Gandhi tweeted in Hindi, “The chowkidaar (watchman) gave a lot of speeches, but forgot about people’s stomach. Did a lot of Yoga and enjoyed life, but forgot to give food to people.”
चौकीदार ने भाषण खूब दिया,
पेट का आसन भूल गये।योग-भोग सब खूब किया,
जनता का राशन भूल गये।https://t.co/RTlyKbKeZl— Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) October 15, 2018
Not only Gandhi, another senior Congressman Ashok Gehlot termed the matter as “very serious”. He was of the opinion that the latest survey report is a matter of shame for the entire BJP-led Union government and the country. He accused the government of not talking about hunger and neither acknowledging on how will they make policies to feed the people.
Gehlot tweeted, “India stands at a lowly 103rd position among 119 countries, in GLOBALHUNGERINDEX report, which is a matter of shame. This is a very serious concern and one which needs urgent attention. But for NDA govt, the grave issue of hunger doesn’t exist. Modi ji or his Ministers never talk about poor, hungry people. If they do not even acknowledge problem then can we expect them to make policies to feed hungry mouths. NDA needs to set its priorities right. 1st priority should be to eradicate hunger and provide food to all.”

It is to be known that in the year 2017, India’s rank was 100th and in 2016, it was 97th. So there has been been an increase in the opposite direction. As per the latest report, India ranks much below than its neighbours like Sri Lanka (67th), Nepal (72nd) and Bangladesh (86th).
