Jammu and Kashmir: One terrorist gunned down, combat operation underway
Security forces on Saturday gunned down one terrorist in Babgund village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The body of slain terrorist along with arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter spot.
After receiving a specific input about the presence of three terrorists, a joint team of the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and state police launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area.
The holed-up terrorists were challenged by the security forces after which an encounter started. One terrorist identified as Shabir Ahmad Dar was killed. However, other two terrorists have reportedly escaped from the encounter site. The combat operation is underway and as a precautionary measure, authorities have imposed curfew in Pulwama.
On Thursday, security forces eliminated two Hizbul terrorists including Manan Wani in Shatgund Bala village of Handwara town in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Notably, the security has been tightened in all the sensitive areas of Jammu and Kashmir due to local body polls. Jammu and Kashmir is today witnessing the third phase of urban local body polls. On October 5, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel sustained minor injuries after terrorists lobbed a grenade on security forces in Tral area of Pulwama district.
