Premier League: Arsenal thrash Fulham 5-1 to enter into the top four
Arsenal continued their upward rise in recent times with an emphatic 5-1 win over Fulham at the Craven Cottage on Sunday in the Premier League.
French striker Alexandre Lacazette netted a brace in either half of the match before Aaron Ramsey scored a potential goal of the season and Gabonese striker ended things in style with a double of his own as the Gunners moved up to the table to enter into the top four for the first time this season.
Yet, this looked like a distant probability when they faced consecutive losses against Manchester City and Chelsea in their first two matches of the league.
But the Unai Emery experiment has worked with Arsenal ever since as the club, after a woeful outing the last term has now made it to nine consecutive wins in all competitions and have established themselves as potential title contenders.
Lacazette scored the opener for the visitors from a close-range effort that just got to show the rich vein of form he is in before an error at the back from Nacho Montreal helped Andre Schurrle chip the ball over Bernd Leno, who was making his first full start in the Premier League.
But it was Lacazette again, who once again stood up for the visitors with a powerful shot from 20-yards or so that crashed into the back of the net as Arsenal once again went ahead.
There was no looking back for Emery’s men from here on. The Spaniard introduced both Aaron Ramsey and Aubameyang in the last half hour and the decision seemed to pay back heavily.
The Welsh midfielder, who reportedly wasn’t given a new contract by the club pulled off a brilliant back-footed finish to double Arsenal’s lead in the 67th minute.
Aubameyang, then signed things off in style with twin strikes in the 79th and in the first minute of added time as Arsenal accumulated 18 points, two short of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea who are locked at 20 points each.
