Injured Shakib flies back home, to miss Asia Cup final

Star Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al-Hasan would be unable to take part in the Asia Cup final against India as he flew back to his country following the worsening of his finger injury.

The southpaw didn’t take part in Bangladesh’s stunning 37-run win over Pakistan in the Super Four stage on Wednesday and is now expected to be our out of action for the next six weeks.

Confirming the development, Bangladesh Cricket Board’s operation chairman Akram Khan, as quoted by The Indian Express, said, ” He will be out for four to six weeks. The pain had increased over the last few days and the physio [Thihan Chandramohan] tried his best to get him on the field, but the pain was too much. I would like to thank Shakib for playing [the first four matches] with the pain he had.”

This thus means that he would have to skip Bangladesh’s home series against Zimbabwe which is scheduled to begin on September 30.

Bangladesh team manager Khaled Mahmud, in an interaction with Cricbuzz, said, “A decision regarding his operation will be taken once he reaches Dhaka. The problem is that his finger is getting sore and that is extremely difficult for someone to carry on and play.”
