Swati Maliwal condemns Naveen Jaihind’s comment on rape, advises to control anger
Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal and wife of AAP’s Haryana unit chief Naveen Jaihind condemned the statement of her husband in which he said that he will give Rs 20 lakh to any BJP leader who gets sexually assaulted by 10 people. She was also of the opinion that the AAP leader needs to control his anger.
Maliwal was reacting to the comments made by Jaihind where he condemned Bhartiya Janata Party-led Manohar Lal Khattar government for giving only Rs 2 lakh as compensation to the gangrape victim. The DCW chairperson stated that she does sympathise with the anger and pain of Jaihind, but does not support the statements made.
She said, as reported by NDTV, “I sympathise with his anger and pain but I do not sympathise with what he has spoken. I do not agree with his statement and I condemn it. I would suggest to Naveen Jaihind that it is okay that you are feeling angry but when you are in public space you need to control your anger. You need to be careful of what you are speaking.”
Reacting to the compensation announced by CM Khattar, Jaihind had said, “Is a woman’s honours worth Rs. 2 lakh? Be ashamed, chief minister ‘sahab’.” He added, “We will give Rs. 20 lakh to any BJP leader who gets raped by 10 people. Does woman’s honour have a value? (BJP ka koyee neta dus logon say ku-karam karvaye 20 lakh hum denge unko, arrey izzat ki koyee keemat hote hai kya).”
Adding on the AAP leader had also accused that BJP government in the state has completely failed on the law and order and women safety front.
