Asian Games 2018: Indian duo Pranab Bardhan and Shibnath Sarkar win gold in Bridge

India continued its surge at the 2018 Asian Games with another gold medal, increasing its medal tally to 69, 15 of which have come in gold. Bengal duo Pranab Bardhan and Shibnath Sarkar clinched the gold in the Bridge competition.

60-year-old Pranab and 56-year-old Shibnath, both from the Howrah district of Bengal finished on top after scoring 384 points in the finals.

Chinese pair of Lixin Yang and Gang Chen scored 378 to win the silver, while the Indonesian combination of Henky Lasut and Freddy Eddy Manoppo bagged the bronze after scoring 374.

“We have already started celebrations after hearing the news, and it will continue till they return back home,” a resident of Shibnath was quoted as saying by the Hindu after he won the gold.

Meanwhile, another Bengal duo of Sumit Mukherjee and Debabrata Majumder finished at ninth after managing to score 333 in the finals.

India has so far won 69 medals at the Asiad with 15 gold, 24 silver, and 30 bronze.
