Asian Games 2018: Heena Sidhu wins bronze in 10m air pistol event
Indian shooter Heena Sidhu won the bronze medal at the 10m air pistol event at the ongoing 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang on Friday.
Sidhu didn’t have a good time at the competition so far as she could score just 96.7 in the first stage where she ended in the seventh position in the first stage. She couldn’t avoid another seventh-place finish with 117.1 after having scored 9.8 in her first shot in the second stage.
But the Commonwealth Games medal winner came back strongly, having stood on the brink of elimination, with a 10.3 and 10.6 in the fourth series to end at the fourth position. Her rise continued as she was able to secure a bronze medal. But she missed out on a silver, having struck 10.8 as she eventually fell 0.1 short of her two competitors.
She needed to strike 10.2 to ensure a silver medal but all she could muster was 9.6 in her next shot and she was thus eliminated as a result.
She finished with a total of 219.2 which gave her a bronze medal and India’s 23rd overall medal in shooting so far at the Games this year.
But 16-year old Manu Bhaker once again could make a very little impact and thus had a disappointing final, where she ended at the fifth position with a score of 176. 2.
