Asian Games 2018: 15-year-old Shardul wins India’s eighth shooting medal

15-year-old Shradul Vihan joined the galaxy of Indian stars after winning a silver in the men’s double trap event at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta on Thursday.

A resident of Uttar Pradesh, Shradul who studies in the ninth standard led the qualification round with a score of 141 before slipping to second in the final round. He, however, held on to that position to bring home a silver. He finished behind Shin Hyunwoo of South Korea, who clinched the gold.

Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Olympics gold-medallist Abhinav Bindra too to Twitter to congratulate Shradul for his achievement.

He, in the process, became the third teenage shooter after Saurabh Chaudhary (16) and Lakshay Sheroan (19) to win a medal at the 2018 Asian Games. While Lakshay won a silver in the men’s trap event, Saurabh bagged the gold in the men’s 10m air pistol event.

Vihan, who started competing since 2015 has already won four gold medals at the 61st National shotgun Championship in New Delhi last year, beating former World No.1 Ankur Mittal 78-76 in the final.


He also came sixth at the ISSF Junior World Championship in Moscow.
