MOMO Game challenge: Jalpaiguri girl receives inciting call on WhatsApp, files complaint
The Kiki fever was not over yet and a new virtual suicide game is making the rounds among youth. In a recent incident, a college student in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal has filed a complaint with the police on Wednesday that she has been allegedly tried to incite her to participate in the ‘Momo Game’.
Detailing the brief of the incident, the first year college student stated that she had posted in the social media that she wished to take her own life, after a spat with her mother. Soon after that, she received a message in her WhatsApp number by an unknown person allegedly inviting her to take the Momo Game challenge.
The girl then asked the message sender’s number and he revealed it verbally. Scared, the girl detailed about this to her brother who warned her not to participate in this game. She then informed the police.
What is MOMO Game Challenge?
As per to The Sun‘s report, Momo is a disturbing new WhatsApp ‘suicide’ game feared to have taken the life of a 12-year-old girl. This is similar to the Blue Whale ‘challenge’ that led to reports of 130 suicides in Russia and is becoming a concern for the police forces around the world.
The Computer Crime Investigation Unit in the Mexican state of Tabasco state that the game started on Facebook first. In the latest game, members were ‘challenged’ to communicate with an unknown number. The image used in the ‘Momo’ challenge is of a woman with grotesque features and bulging eyes taken from the work of Japanese artist Midori Hayashi. Midori is not associated with the game in any sense.
