England vs India: Disheartened Shashi Tharoor hopes for a sensational comeback from Indian team
India’s abject subjugation against England in the second Test at Lord’s received huge criticisms from across the nation with many already calling the Virat Kohli led side to be the worst Indian side to have travelled to India. But Congress MP and an ardent cricket fan Shashi Tharoor still hopes for a dream comeback from the world’s number one Test team in the remaining three Test matches, which is set to begin on August 18.
He was disheartened by India’s display in the Lord’s Test and hoped that the boys put up a better performance in the next three Test matches.
One can’t help a feeling of disbelief at the abject failure of our much-vaunted batsmen in England. There’s shock, denial, grief, & finally a resigned sense of inevitability. But a corner of one’s mind hopes that it’s just a collective bad dream from which we’ll soon wake up.

Replying to a tweet from a fan who in a sarcastic tone had questioned if the Indian team was aiming to become the second side in history to turn a 0-2 deficit and win the Test series after Sir Don Bradman led Australia in the 1936-37 Ashes series. That Australian side led by Bradman bounced back to win the final three matches of Ashes Test series in Australia after going down in the first two Tests.
That’s exactly the kind of schoolboy fantasy we all need to indulge in! @SDhawan25 comes back &scores century before lunch? @imkuldeep18 bamboozles England on a turning track? Debut ton by @RishabPant777? @cheteshwar1 bats all 5 days? Let’s all dream on! #KeepHopeAlive https://t.co/IhS70hwyVE

Tharoor quoted that tweet and wrote that it is those kinds of “schoolboy fantasies” which the Indian fans must start dreaming to keep their hopes alive.
Adding to that fantasy which seems very far from being replicated, Tharoor further wrote that it will indeed be a dream if Shikhar Dhawan comes back and smashes a century before lunch. The left-hander had achieved the landmark in the one-off Test match against Afghanistan and Tharoor hoped that he will do it again.
He also wished for dashing batsmen Rishabh Pant to make his debut in the next Test at Trent Bridge and for Kuldeep Yadav to bamboozle every England batsmen with the ball.

Meanwhile, England currently lead 2-0 in the five-match Test series after beating India at Edgbaston and Lord’s. While India was unlucky to lose the opening Test by 31-painful runs, they were completely outplayed in the rain-heat Test at Lord’s.
The Indian batting line-up sans Kohli has so far failed to impress or score anything substantial with the bat. While Kohli made a magnificent 149 and 51 in the opening Test at Edgbaston, no other batsmen have so far managed to reach even the 50-run mark.
