Kashmir: Five terrorists shot dead in Shopian
A Lashkar-e-Taiba operative has been identified amongst five terrorists who were shot dead in an encounter with security forces at Jammu and Kashmir’s Killora village in the Shopian district, 55 kilometres from Srinagar. The operative has been identified as Umar Malik, news agency ANI reported. He was also said to have a AK-47 assault rifle on him.
A fresh round of gunfire was heard in the district with the terrorists being encountered one after the other by the security personnel in the vicinity on August 3 night.

Four terrorists were reportedly found dead on August 4 morning; with the body of another terrorist who shot dead last night at Shopian’s Killora village was recovered.
Security operations were hindered by stone pelters which resulted in the retaliation of the forces. This left 20 stone pelters injured.

A civilian was also killed amid stone-throwing by locals as the bodies of the four who were shot dead today were found, the police said.
Following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists, the security forces had cordoned off the village on Friday night. As they started a combing operation, the terrorists fired at them, leading to the encounter, the police said.
