Beijing explosion: Bomb detonated near US embassy
A major explosion took place on Thursday outside the United Nations embassy in Beijing in China. As per the initial reports, the reported explosion took place in one of the crowded place in the Chinese capital. The US embassy is situated just down the road from the Indian embassy, reports India Today.
Security has cordoned the area and rescue teams have reached the place, with emergency services. Policemen have ‘taken a woman spraying gasoline on herself in suspected attempt at self-immolation’, reports state-run Global Times. Though a eyewitnesses say that a man had brought a homemade explosive intending to blow away the US embassy, but the bomb was exploded beside him only. This has not been verified as of yet, reports a journalist from Reuters.
Local news agencies report that the area is normally filled with people waiting to get their VISAa approved by the embassy, agents and brokers usually throng the area. A correspondent at the Kahn Diplomatic desk, Amichai Stein wrote on his twitter handle, “A man tried to detonated an explosive device next to the US embessy in Beijing China and he was the only one injured – US embessy Spox.”
