England mortify Australia by scoring 481 in 50 overs
England mortify Australia by 242 runs in the 3rd ODI at Trent Bridge. Australia dropped Kane Richardson and brought Billy Stanlake back in the side. Meanwhile, England augmented as their captain Eoin Morgan returned to replace Sam Billings.
England scored a staggering 444 runs against Pakistan last year at the same venue. It is indeed one of the better English wickets to bat on. The home side begun with flair and aggression in the form of Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow. They battered bowlers all around the park. Aussie bowlers had no answers to this brute hitting. Jonny Bairstow went onto score an impressive ton whereas Jason Roy fell agonizingly short of a well deserved hundred.
England’s new number three walked in with an astonishing history at this venue. Alex Hales looked a different player all together at his home ground. He commenced in an aggressive manner and seemed unstoppable. The 29 year old scored 147 runs surpassing Jonny Bairstow’s 139.
Ashton Agar got rid of Jonny Bairstow which brought Joss Butler at the crease. Unfortunately, he perished on a slower delivery on the bowling of Jhye Richardson. Eoin Morgan who missed the last ODI due to back spasm walked in and looked fluent from the word go. He hit 6 sixes and 3 fours in his high class innings of 67 runs in just 30 balls.
There is a slight snag in the statement “England mortify Australia” as they were well set to cross the magical 500 run mark. They lost wickets right towards the end resulting in a total that was 19 runs short.
Australia came out to bat with a positive mindset. D’Arcy Short hit two sumptuous drives on consecutive deliveries but lost his wicket on a nothing shot. Travis Head played well for his fifty but the spin assassin Moeen Ali has got all tricks in his bag to stop the Kangaroos. He along with Adil Rashid got the better of Aussies and eventually they managed only 239 runs.
