Indians switched off all the lights for 9 minutes at 9 PM today and lit candles, diyas and flashlights to mark India’s fight against the novel Coronavirus. PM Narendra Modi has also fulfilled his duty by turning off the lights of his house and lighting a lamp.
Modi took to his Twitter handle and shared pictures of him and wrote, “शुभं करोति कल्याणमारोग्यं धनसंपदा ।
शत्रुबुद्धिविनाशाय दीपज्योतिर्नमोऽस्तुते ॥”(sic)

PM Modi’s mother Heeraben has also lit an earthen lamp after turning off all the lights at her residence.
On April 3, PM Modi said, “The way you paid gratitude to people fighting against COVID-19 on March 22 has become a model that is being emulated by other countries. Janata curfew and ringing of bells/clanging utensils made the country aware of its unity amid this challenging time.”
He further said, “At that time, if you have turned off all the lights of your homes, and each one of us in all directions has lit a diya, we will experience the superpower of light, clearly illuminating the common purpose we are all fighting for.”
From common men to celebs to politicians, everyone has come together to light candles and diyas in response to the Prime Minister’s appeal.
