5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Assam, Tremors Felt in Meghalaya and West Bengal
An earthquake of 5.2 magnitude hit Goalpara in Assam on Wednesday morning. The epicentre of the quake was located 71km north of Tura in Meghalaya. Tremors were felt in Assam, Meghalaya, including Darjeeling and Cooch Behar. The news was confirmed by the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
“Earthquake of Magnitude:5.2, Occurred on 07-07-2021, 08:45:25 IST, Lat: 26.15 & Long: 90.28, Depth: 14 Km , Location: 71km N of Tura, Meghalaya, India,” the National Center for Seismology tweeted.

People in the districts of Lower Assam, including Guwahati, and Meghalaya ran out of their homes in panic. The tremors were also felt in Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri. Parts of Bangladesh, including Dhaka, Gaibandha, Bogura and Rajshahi, also felt the jolt.
However, no reports of casualties have been reported yet. The exact extent of damages in the Assam earthquake is not clear.
Recently a 3.7 Magnitude Earthquake struck Haryana’s Jhajjar on Monday. The Medium-intensity earthquake’s tremors were felt in Delhi and NCR areas on Monday night. Gurugram too felt the tremors.
