Nine people were killed and three others injured when the plane carrying them crashed in South Dakota. A Pilatus PC-12, a single-engine turboprop passenger plane, had as many as 12 people on board when it crashed shortly after takeoff about a mile from Chamberlain Municipal Airport. It is about 180 miles west of Sioux Falls. Those killed also included the pilot and two children.
As reported by The Associated Press, Chamberlain and central south-central South Dakota were under a winter storm warning at the time of the plane crash. Peter Knudson with the National Transportation Safety Board revealed that the Pilatus PC-12 had 12 people on board when it crashed at about 12:30 pm on Saturday, after taking off from Chamberlain, about 140 miles (225.3 kilometers) west of Sioux Falls.
Peter Knudson added the plane was bound for Idaho Falls, Idaho. Chamberlain and central south-central South Dakota were under a winter storm warning at the time of the plane crash. The NTSB will investigate the crash, but inclement weather in the area is making travel to the site difficult.
This incident took place after Seven people were killed in a plane crash in the north of Kingston, Canada on Thursday. The wreckage of the plane was found in a heavily wooded area more than three miles north of Kingston, which is between Toronto and Montreal and near the border with America.
