5 arrested, 4 detained for killing Police Inspector in UP mob violence

On Tuesday morning, at least 5 men have been arrested and four detained for the killing of Police Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, who was killed by a mob that went on the rampage over the slaughter of 25 cows in Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh last evening.

According to a First Information Report (FIR), names 27 people and lists around 60 unnamed accused, in the event.

Reportedly, a man called Yogeshraj is the main accused, who filed a separate complaint of cow slaughter, earlier

Apparently, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will inquire into the case, including why police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh was left alone by other policemen.

In a mobile video which had gone viral, the body of the inspector is seen hanging out of his black SUV after he was attacked with stones and shot dead in the mob violence.

As per reports, Subodh Kumar Singh had tried to control mob violence that had started after the carcasses of 25 cows were found in the forests close to a police post.

Mr Singh was also the Investigating officer (IO) of the Akhlaq lynching case.

In the meanwhile,  Adityanath- Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has announced on Monday that a compensation of Rs 40 lakh for the wife, and Rs 10 lakh for parents and a government job for one member of the family of the deceased Police Inspector.

Expressing his grief over Mr Singh’s death, CM Yogi Adityanath has assured a speedy investigation into the matter.

Around 300-500 people had attacked the entire police force, claimed an eyewitness.

Describing the series of events that took place on Monday, the eyewitness further added, “The police got information about the incident and reached the spot. After reaching the spot we saw remains of cattle and told people that we will send the same for post-mortem. It was a situation of chaos, our officials noted the statement of people. But all of them were saying different things we tried to make them understand but failed.”

Notably, during the violence that ensued in the region, a local youth, identified as Sumit, was also shot and immediately shifted to a hospital in Meerut, who was later declared dead.
